San Diego — They learned the case and they learned the law.
For countless hours over the past five months, 435 high school students from around the county memorized, practiced and role-played as attorneys, witnesses, court clerks and bailiffs.
On Saturday, they pulled it all together to showcase their skills at the 13th annual San Diego County High School Mock Trial Program competition.
At the end of a grueling day that pitted 26 school teams against each other in presenting a realistic criminal trial, students from Westview High School in Rancho Peñasquitos squeaked past Academy of Our Lady of Peace in North Park to win the competition.
